About

bill thumbMy name is Bill Dunphy, I’m a journalist, a trainer, a web and tech evangelist to the newspaper world, and on my good days I’m a writer. Breaking (that’s a verb, not an adjective) News is where I go to think out loud about reamaking journalism and maybe get some constructive conversations happening about the future of a profession I have a mad love/hate relationship with.

I’ve worked at community papers and big city dailies as a typesetter (I have a certificate!) reporter, editor, columnist, satirist, investigative reporter and training manager. I’ve received awards (provincially and nationally) mostly for my investigative reporting and my writing, and spoken at conferences and seminars for The American Press Institute, The Canadian Newspaper Association, The Ontario Community Newspaper Association and at Ryerson University’s Wordstock.

I am currently working as part of a small team that’s building and installing a new unified content management system across the Toronto Star newspaper chain.
